Universal Tennis Flex Leagues - Rules and Regulations

Rules and Regulations

General League Information

1. Commitment: We ask if you sign up for a UTR Flex League that you commit to playing all your matches. Following through on your commitment to your local UTR Flex League will make it a fun and rewarding experience for you and for your fellow players.

2. Cost: $25 for Power Subscribers, $35 for non-Power Subscribers.

3. Ages: Players segmented into two leagues:

a. Ages 12-18 - Junior Weekly Verified UTR Match Pairing League

b. 16 and above - Adult League

c. Note: 16,17, and 18-year-olds have the option to play in either league.

4. Scoring format: All matches must be best 2/3 full sets with a ten-point tiebreaker for the third set. You may play a full third set or no-ad if you and your opponent agree.

5. Divisions: Each player will be grouped into a 4-10 person, 4-week round-robin schedule. Makeup matches and championship matches will be played in week 5.

6. Guaranteed Matches: All players will be guaranteed 4 matches in 4 weeks (one per week) unless a player withdraws from the league or is unresponsive.

7. Reporting scores: Players should report scores on the MyUTR.com app/site as soon as the match is completed. Go to MyUTR.com, hit the ‘post’ button, choose your match, and post the score. If the match is not listed please reach out to your Flex League Manager. We also recommend you get your opponent to confirm the score on site.

8. Confirming Matches: Players have 7 days to confirm or deny a match score. If no action is taken, the match will be automatically confirmed at the end of 7 days. If a match is denied, an email to your Flex League Manager will be needed to explain why you denied the match. If the score is simply wrong, please reach out to your opponent. If you can’t agree on the score please fill out our match protest form

9. Withdrawal from league: Players must provide valid reasoning for withdrawal. If a player withdraws from two UTR Flex Leagues, they are banned for one year from playing in any UTR Flex Leagues. No refunds will be given unless we cannot find a league that fits your level.

10. Championship: The top two players based on record from each league will be placed in an optional championship in week 5. The player with the better record will be the home team.

11. Schedule: League schedules can be found within the flex league event page under the “matchups” tab.

12. Standings: League standings can be found under the ‘standings tab’ and will update automatically when you post your score.

13. Match Protests: You can formally submit a match protest here. This should be a last resort between you and your opponent. Three match protests against a player will result in a ban from all future UTR Flex Leagues.

Scheduling Rules

1. Scheduling Matches: Players are responsible for scheduling their own match times with their opponent.

2. Locations: Flexible. Organize your weekly league matches at a time and a court that’s convenient for you and your opponent. (Note: Try to meet in the middle if it’s a far drive for one of the players).

3. Contact information: Contact information will be sent via email. Note: By signing up for the flex league you are required to agree that your email, name and schedule can be shared with other players registered in the league.

4. Contacting times: Be courteous when contacting your fellow players. Call/text your opponent before 9pm and after 9am. Email is okay any time.

5. Canceling Matches: If you are canceling a match and cannot play it during the makeup week, please send your opponent an email with the Flex League Manager cc’d. You will receive a walkover for this match.

6. Makeup/Multiple Matches: If you cannot play a match during your designated matchweek, you may play the match in another week or the week 5, which is a makeup week.

7. Unresponsive opponents: We are not responsible for unresponsive opponents. Please try by email and phone, but if the player remains unresponsive they will receive a default. Please notify the Flex League Manager of unresponsive opponents as they can be of assistance here, but ultimately it is up to you and your opponent to schedule the match.

Match Day Rules

1. COVID Safety Measures: During the coronavirus pandemic, each player should bring a can of balls to serve with, no handshakes at the end of the match, and changeovers on opposite sides of the court. All local & state health guidelines should be followed at all times.

2. Home Court: If you are the home team, know your court. Factors such as when the lights shut off, when you have the court reserved until, and cracks in the court should be communicated to your opponent ahead of time. If a match is interrupted for any reason, the home court player will receive a walkover unless both players agree to complete at a later date.

3. Rain: Do not assume the match is cancelled. If you don’t show up and the courts are okay to play, you will receive a walkover.

4. Line Calls: There are no officials on site. We expect the highest level of honesty and integrity. Flex League Managers reserve the right to disqualify you from the league if they receive three or more complaints.

5. Warm up: A 10 minute warm up is our recommendation.

6. Set Breaks: If players split sets, a 5 minute break may be taken if they are playing a 10 point tiebreaker. If they are playing a full third set, a 10 minute break may be taken.

7. Parents/spectators: Under no circumstances should parents be on the court. If both players agree, spectators may be allowed on the court with no interaction with the players.

8. Unsportsman-like Behavior: We ask you don’t play this league if you cannot act mature and respectful. If someone is not upholding these values, please report it to the Flex League Manager. Three reports and a player may be expelled from the league.

9. Coaching: No coaching is allowed during UTR Flex Leagues at any time during a match, including players splitting sets.

10. Canceling Matches: If you are canceling a match and cannot play it during the makeup week, please send your opponent an email with the Flex League Managger cc’d. You will receive a walkover for this match.

11. Late: Players have 30 minutes from the agreed upon match time to show up. After 30 minutes, the player has the right to leave and submit the match as a walkover.

12. No show: If a player does not show up this will go on their record as a walkover.

13. Injuries: We know injuries are a part of tennis. If you drop out of a match once, you may still play the league. If it happens twice, you may be defaulted from the league.

14. Match incompletion: If for any reason you cannot finish your match, you have until the end of the season to complete it. At the end of the season all incomplete matches will be input with the score when the match was stopped. You and your opponent may agree to not post the match at all.

15. Time constraints: You may play best ⅔ fast four sets with a ten point tiebreaker only if you are constrained on time. Tiebreaks should be played when the sets are tied 4 to 4.

16. Court fees: If your home court has court fees, you are required to give a heads up to your opponent. If they don’t want to pay court fees, you will have to cover for them or find a new facility. We will not reimburse for Court Fees.
